4.20.10 (T&S Tuesday)
Your Name- Vivek Shraya feat. Sara Quin
-

If We're Not Talking
“Your name, your name, your name!” Oh sorry, I got distracted by the amazing beat and melody of “Your Name” by Vivek Shraya.
The infamous Sara K. Quin sings on the track as well, which makes it even better. SKQ can do no wrong. Fact.
But that’s not the point. You should listen to this song and see why electro indie pop is my new favorite genre. It’ll be yours too.

4.19.10 (All-Play Monday AND MMbizz’s BIRTHDAY)
Oblivion- Wintersleep
-

Welcome to the Night Sky
Oh hey there! I lurve Wintersleep like nothing else. It was hard to pick which one to do. Because of this, I decided that multiple songs of the day will be Wintersleep. Deal.
I chose “Oblivion” because it makes me want to sing the most. That’s all anyone can really ask for, eh?
Maybe people should sing me a Wintersleep song instead of Happy Birthday today. That would be pretty cool.
-mmbizz, who is one year older today.

4.11.10 (Sunday Chill)
Under the Sun- Sugar Ray
-

Sugar Ray
I decided to really analyze my options for Sunday Chill this week. Upon reflection, I found that I’ve been neglecting my favorite decade of music… the 90′s.
Oh, Sugar Ray. I heard you on the radio daily. I loved you. I still do. This song is especially dear to my heart. Perhaps it’s my favorite, but I won’t say that or I might regret it.
Are you listening, Mark McGrath? I love you

4.9.10 (Classic Friday)
Peace Frog- The Doors

Morrison Hotel
I don’t care how much hip-hop makes me want to dance. This makes me want to dance more.
To just read the lyrics wouldn’t make me want to dance. They would probably make me confused and sad. That’s one reason why I love The Doors: great, catchy arrangement with engaging lyrics that make you think.
If I were a rockstar, I’d want to be Jim Morrison. Just throwing that out there.

Spit It Back in My Mouth- Kaki King
-

Junior
You heard it here first, folks. My favorite track off Kaki King‘s yet-to-be-released album, Junior. I have connections, obviously.
The guitar riff might be the most wonderful thing my ears have ever heard. Forget anytime I’ve used that line before. This song beats them all.
The most surprising aspect of the new album can be heard in “Spit It Back in My Mouth.” There are prominent vocals. The instrumental tracks that made her famous are still present in Junior, but few and far between. I for one LOVE her new sound. I have a feeling you will too. Trust me.

4.4.10 (Sunday Chill: Easter Edition)
Lonely Day- Phantom Planet

The Guest
Are there any songs for you that have so many memories that it’s almost overwhelming? This is one of those songs for me.
Phantom Planet was my first true musical obsession. It all started with their most famous tune, California (aka the theme song on The OC.) The Guest might still hold the record for my most played album actually.
I’m so glad I felt this way about Phantom Planet rather than a band like… Nickelback for instance. I can say that I’ve always enjoyed truly quality music.

4.3.10 (Sexy Saturday)
I Drive Alone- Esthero

We R In Need of a Musical Revolution
This song became well-known after it was featured on a certain Showtime channel series that everyone loves. You know.
My favorite part, if you’d like to know (which you should because this is my blog… yes I’m a meglomaniac,) is the drumming. It’s what amps up the sexy. And everyone likes the sexy to be amped up.
So yeah. Good song. Peace out, A town.

4.2.10 (Classic Friday)
Saturday in the Park- Chicago

Chicago V
This is one of those sing-alongs for me. I’m sure the people around me hate this song by now. I don’t though… I win.
All anyone has to do is mention a park or the 4th of July and they’re doomed to hear my rendition. Not that it’s anything compared to Chicago, of course. Maybe I could guest on a comeback album with them.
Have a spendid weekend!

4.1.10 (Grrrl Day Thrrrsday)
Big Talker- The Murmurs

Pristine Smut
I made this song my choice to show my hatred for everything Leisha Hailey does. I hate her, I hate her band Uh Huh Her, and I especially hate The Murmurs.
Um… April Fools? Yeah… I love The Murmurs, Uh Huh Her and Leisha Hailey. This song is no exception.
Before she was Alice Pieszecki on television, Leisha Hailey was in The Murmurs, a not so typical 90′s girl puck grunge project. If you press play, you’ll hear what that sounds like. You will quite possibly adore it.
Happy April!

3.31.10 (WTF Wednesday)
F–king Boyfriend- The Bird & the Bee

The Bird & The Bee
I caught myself singing the chorus to this song the other day. Needles to say, people within ear range gave me weird looks. They don’t want to be my boyfriend evidently.
I lurrrve Bird & the Bee. Something about the beat makes me want to dance and sing along. And the vocals are wonderful too.
Basically, you should listen to this song. Who knows, maybe your future lover will hear you singing it and say he wants to actually be your boyfriend.

3.30.10 (T&S Tuesday)
Alligator (Passion Pit Remix) – Tegan and Sara
-

Alligator LP
T&S Tuesday! Alligator LP! Released today!!!
The LP consists of 17 VERSIONS of the same song (namely “Alligator“.) That’s a lot. Big names like Ra Ra Riot, Passion Pit, Four Tet, Holy Fuck, VHS or Beta, and Morgan Page contributed… just to name a few.
I haven’t been able to listen to all 17 remixes yet. I mean, how many times can one person hear SKQ song “over you, over you” before they go crazy?
If you press play, you’ll just hear one of the songs. Feel free to dance.

3.29.10 (All-Play Monday)
In the Sun- She & Him
-

Volume Two
This is the kind of thing I love.
Zooey Deschanel + Matt Ward + catchy piano hook + good lyrics = wonderful song.
This album just came out last week to much hype… and I can tell you it’s well-deserved.

3.28.10 (Sunday Chill)
Fortress- Pinback

Summer in Abaddon
I’m chilling, watching the evening news, and listening to some Pinback. It must be Sunday.
I am very fond of this song… everything about it pretty much. A new album is coming out this year supposedly, so I’m looking extremely forward to that. #Understatement.
I’m in such a state of chill that I can’t continue writing. Peace out.

3.27.10 (Sexy Saturday)
Champagne Supernova- Oasis

(What's the Story) Morning Glory
It was difficult for me to decide whether to make this a song of the day. Everyone knows it… so maybe no one will care? But on the other hand, I love this song far too much to ignore.
I remember the first time I heard this, I was in the car with someone. They were talking to me, but I couldn’t concentrate on what she was saying due to the beauty of Champagne Supernova in the background.
Years later, I still would have a hard time concentrating on what she was saying.

3.25.10 (Grrrl Day Thrrrsday)
Mushaboom- Feist
Let It Die
I wasn’t into the first Feist song I heard (1,2,3,4). It was on that Apple commercial and way overplayed.
However, a few months ago I decided to ignore my annoyance after seeing Feist’s success at the Juno Awards (Canadian Grammys, anyone?) I’m so glad I gave her another chance… Let it Die is an incredible album. I’m also a big fan of the remix album, Open Season. Check it out!

3.24.10 (WTF Wednesday)
The High Road- Broken Bells

Broken Bells
James Mercer (of The Shins) and Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley) doing a project together? It sounds like some sort of crazy dream to me, but this particular song of the day proves it to be a reality.
It reminds me of if you were to take the smooth indie feel of a Shins song and mixed it with an experimental electronic feel of Gnarls Barkley …which makes a lot of sense when you think about it…
Anyway, I really enjoyed the entire album. It gets the official mmbizz seal of approval.

3.11.10 (Grrrl Day Thrrrsday)
Drumming Song- Florence + the Machine

Lungs
Ooh I love this newish British group! Their whole debut album is everything I like mashed up into one wonderful disc. I like that all the songs actually sound unique. Which is unique in itself.
Oh, and Florence Welsh’s voice is good. Quite good. So good. Extremely good. Great. Fantastic.
Got it? I hope so.

3.10.10 (WTF Wednesday)
Waterfalls- TLC

CrazySexyCool
Remember this song? I do.
The other day, it suddenly assaulted my brain as I was about to slumber. I repeated “don’t go chasing waterfalls… please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you’re used to,” for such a long time until the assault subsided.
I suppose that I want to make whoever is reading this feel as helpless as I did that night. Maybe you too will sing the chorus over and over when you have three midterms the next morning.
-mmbizz
(ps. I couldn’t do the rap part… in case you’re wondering.)
————————————-
3.9.10 (T&S Tuesday)
Not Tonight- Matt Sharp and Maya Rudolph

Not Tonight
This is a cover of Sara Quin’s song, “Not Tonight”. If you actually listen to it, you’ll hear how different it is from the T and S original.
I like it… it’s not better by any means, but it’s very well done. I lurrve Matt Sharp. And Maya Rudolph is pretty funny on Saturday Night Live at times.
-mmbizz

3.5.10 (Classic Friday)
She’s Leaving Home- The Beatles

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
It’s hard to choose a favorite Beatles song, but this comes close to the top. “She’s Leaving Home” is completely different from my other top Beatles ditties (“Eight Days a Week” and “Ticket to Ride” among them). This song is incredibly sad.
I get terribly unhappy upon listening, but in sort of a good way. You know what I mean? Me neither.
The last 10 seconds are my favorite. If you aren’t familiar, you should listen to the entire song for the last line. B-E-A-utiful.

3.3.10 (WTF Wednesday)
Bone Chaos in the Ghetto- Tupac vs. Kaki King

Bone Chaos in the Ghetto
This is a mashup of “I Wonder if Heaven Got a Ghetto” and “Bone Chaos in the Castle.” Wtf?
It’s actually really awesome though… Kaki King should consider arranging hip-hop tracks. I’d be more likely to enjoy rap that way.
You can find this song on The Hood Internet’s website fyi.

3.1.10 (All-Play Monday)
Cars- Now, Now Every Children

Cars
Sooo yeah. I really love this song. Let me list all the things I like about it.
The vocals, percussion, electronics, lyrics, arrangement…
Actually I like most everything about it. I can’t guarante that you will too, but just take a risk and press play. You’ll potentially be thanking me once you find out how wonderful Now, Now Every Children is.
